What You’ll See From AbelCine at NAB 2012
Friday, 16 March 2012
This year at NAB, AbelCine’s booth #C8932 will feature solutions for digital cinema, high-speed, broadcast, mobile production, compact HD, optics and asset management.
This is the year that the Sony F65, introduced at NAB 2011, will begin to make its mark in the industry. We will be showing this Super 35mm 8K digital cinema camera fully equipped with accessories, including an AbelCine-developed on-board power management system.
In just a few years, the Arri ALEXA has become a popular choice for cinematographers worldwide, and now ARRI has expanded the line. The flagship ALEXA Studio combines the best of film and digital technology, with a spinning mirror reflex viewing system and true anamorphic capability. The ALEXA Plus builds on the original ALEXA, adding integrated wireless remote control, the ARRI Lens Data System (LDS), additional outputs, lens synchronization for 3D and built-in position and motion sensors.
The Academy Award-winning Phantom Flex continues to be the benchmark for high-speed digital cinema production. In addition, Phantom high-speed is now within reach of all filmmakers with the introduction of the Phantom Miro line. Compact size, smooth workflow and entry-level pricing make the Miro M-series the most accessible high-speed cameras available today.
AbelCine will also be showing a plug-and-play super slow motion system for live sports that is powered by Phantom and is seamlessly integrated into the established Sony camera control and EVS ecosystem.
Digital Cinema On-Set Workflows
Whether it’s the F65, ALEXA, Phantom, RED, or a combination of one of these high-end cameras with a DSLR and a GoPro, finding solutions for onset dailies is a challenge. Assimilate’s SCRATCH Lab is a comprehensive system for audio syncing, LUT application, primary grading, adding metadata and transcoding to multiple sets of deliverables at an affordable price. Other tools fine-tuned for F65 workflow will also be in the booth, including YoYo software and Sony’s SRPC4 data transfer unit.
Compact, affordable cameras with a Super 35mm sensor continue be a strong trend in the industry. AbelCine will have all the most popular models on display – Canon C300, Sony F3 / FS100 and Panasonic AF100 – kitted out with our recommended accessories.
Of course, the image produced by any camera depends in large part on the quality of the glass in front of its sensor. That’s why we continue to focus on optics. Our booth will feature two new Canon EF digital cinema lenses – the Canon 14.5-60mm T2.6 Cinema Zoom and Canon 30-300mm T2.95-3.7 Cinema Zoom – as well as a few new product surprises from other lens manufacturers.

Shared Storage, Asset Management and Archiving
Today’s digital workflows make it more important than ever for productions to effectively manage their digital assets. The EVO, from Studio Network Solutions, offers fast, shared storage that operates as a SAN and NAS, and is easy to expand and administer. CatDV software helps you keep track of your media assets, whether sharing between edit systems, automating review and approvals, or managing a large archive. Best of all it is entirely scalable and has a low entry cost. Archiving hardware from Cache-A has come of age. We’ll have the Power Cache and the 24 Tape LTO-5 Library option on display. Find out why LTO-5 offers the most secure and least expensive way to secure your digital material.
Mobile Production / Production for Webcasting
AbelCine has expanded our broadcast product line to include solutions for mobile production. We will be featuring Panasonic’s extremely compact HS50N HD switcher and RP50 PTZ remote control, connected to the stunning new HE120 PTZ camera, which is ideal for high quality HD video from remote locations for broadcast or webcasting.
