Technology is always changing, and AbelCine is here to help guide your way. At NAB, April 11-14 in Las Vegas, AbelCine’s booth C8932 will feature the best tools for Digital Cinema, high-speed imaging, 3D, Compact Cine, optics, lighting and more. Our technical experts will be on hand to answer your questions and discuss the services we offer to support productions of all sizes and budgets.
Recently, we’ve seen high-end production move into the 35mm single sensor Digital Cinema world. With the introduction of several new cameras, this trend will only continue. The ARRI ALEXA offers versatility in workflow while maintaining the company’s famed craftsmanship and usability. The Sony SRW-9000PL offers the uncompromising performance of the HDCAM SR workflow in a shoulder mount design.
Since 2007, Phantom cameras have been established as the industry standard for high-speed digital cinematography. Vision Research has introduced several new cameras to their lineup to compliment the Phantom HD Gold, allowing productions to choose the right Phantom for their needs.
The Phantom Flex is the most versatile high-speed camera in the world, in terms of frame rates, formats, image quality and lens compatibility. The v641 is ideally suited to sports, documentary and broadcast needs, while the Phantom 65 Gold is the world’s only 65mm format Digital Cinema camera.
AbelCine also has new production friendly tools for Phantom cameras, such as our new Phantom Control Unit (PCU) that virtually eliminates the need for a computer on set.
As an alternative to the complication and bulk inherent in traditional dual-camera 3D systems, the new Phantom 65-Z3D system uses Zepar Stereo 3D lenses and a Phantom 65 Gold to capture two Super-35 images in full HD resolution on a single frame. The system’s compact, lightweight design makes it ideal for handheld, Steadicam and car rigs, as well as full production.
This year a new class of cameras has emerged, which builds on both Digital Cinema and HDSLR cameras to deliver a high level of performance in a compact and affordable package. The Sony PMW-F3 offers a Super-35 sensor and dependable XDCAM EX workflow with the option to step up to 4:4:4 and S-LOG output. The F3’s little brother is the Sony NEX-FS100, which offers the same Super-35 sensor in an even more petite frame. Panasonic’s AG-AF100 uses a Micro 4/3 sensor and cleverly balances the imaging characteristics of a larger sensor with ease of use of the 2/3″ format.
AbelCine represents a wide range of professional lens manufacturers and optical solutions. Our Sales and Rental departments offer primes and zooms from Angenieux, Canon, Focus Optics, Fujinon, Schneider and Zeiss.
HDx Optical Adapters, manufactured by IB/E optics for AbelCine, allow the use of 2/3” lenses on Digital Cinema and Compact Cine cameras.
We are also proud to announce that AbelCine has been named the first Carl Zeiss Authorized Service Partner in the Americas. As such, our New York and Burbank facilities are sanctioned channels for warranty service on all Zeiss prime cine lens lines.
Solid State Recorders
With the decline of tape-based recording, many people are looking for ways to repurpose older cameras, avoid high-compressed built-in recording and move their material into post more efficiently. Solid state recorders used to be bulky and power hungry, but the new generation of units are compact, loaded with features, and record in high-quality formats.
The Sony SR-R1 is the first HDCAM SR data recorder and will debut at NAB. The AJA Ki Pro Mini and Atomos Ninja both record in ProRes. The Cinedeck Extreme 2.0 can record in a variety of formats and offers additional functionality as an analysis monitor and scope. Convergent Design’s Gemini 4:4:4 records uncompressed files directly and can even handle dual streams for 3D.
LED lighting is quickly growing in popularity, as color and brightness options improve. Australia-based company Outsight has several new models of their powerful Creamsource line of lights, and the versatile Ianiro IaniLED54 deserves a place in every doc shooters’ travel kit.
Often, the most important part of the puzzle is the glue that holds it all together. AbelCine’s Product Development Department has introduced the UniBob Universal Breakout Box for complete power management of all camera accessories on 2/3” and digital cinema cameras like ALEXA and Phantom. AbelCine also commissioned Frezzi to create the Universal Juicebox to power UniBob, or anything else on set that requires power.
The versatile CamTram 2500, sold exclusively by AbelCine, is the portable dolly solution that’s sure to become an essential part of your kit. In addition to these accessories, we’ll be showing lots of clever new follow focuses, custom risers, mounts, battery rigs, and more at our booth (#C8932).
